Expectant Moms will find they will have their babies on the second floor in the maternity unit at PGRH until other renovations are compete.
The $12 million dollar maternal-child unit renovation is proceeding, and a temporary shift in the location of the Labour and delivery rooms (LDR) will provide some extra peace and quiet.
“We’ve done a great deal of preparation to ensure that mothers-to-be get high quality care in the new LDR location,” said PGRH Director of Patient Care Anne Cooke. “A key feature of the new maternity area when it’s finished will be the 14 private single rooms for all stages of childbirth/recovery, which will keep mothers and newborns closer together.”
The move to the temporary LDR will take place on the morning of Wednesday March 8th
In addition to the new private rooms, the renovations will also provide;
New paediatric rooms;
An expanded Special Care Nursery area that meets new Canadian standards for space and equipment and includes more room for parents;
Expanded paediatric ambulatory care facilities; and
Dedicated isolation rooms for infectious patients.
