Prince George City Council has approved a request that it support efforts of the Prince George Riverboat Association to secure funding from the Northern Development Initiatives Trust. Council has asked administration to work with the Association to develop the application and bring it back to Council for their consideration.
Council was approached by the Association last month to guarantee $100 thousand dollars as a contingency fund for a boat launch project . (see previous story) The item has been placed on the municipal budget enhancement request list. This application is for funding in addition to the request before Council (which has been deferred on the City's budget's discussion)
Last year, the Association was too late for the Federal infrastructure program, and hopes to apply for funding this year.
The Northern Development Initiatives Trust may offer funding of the project if it is deemed to meet the requirements, such as increasing tourism, improving transportation or creating jobs. It was also noted the chances of landing a grant from the Trust are greatly increased if the funds are payed back over time.
