Terasen Gas has asked the BC Utilities Commission for a reduction in its natural gas commodity rates for most of its B.C customers.

The proposed decrease works out to an annual savings of about 11 per cent, or $155 to $179 per year on the total annual gas bill for a typical residential customer depending on consumption and the region in which they live.

If approved, the commodity decrease will take effect April 1, 2006

“A warmer than expected winter resulted in less demand for natural gas across North America."says Terasen Vice President  of marketing and business development Doug Stout " As a result, market prices have decreased and we are now able to purchase gas on behalf of our customers at a reduced rate.”

The rate reduction does not apply to customers on Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Powell River since they are covered by a different regulatory agreement.

I wonder if it will go through?
I suppose before someone else makes the obvious post, I might as well make it .....

A rate reduction for the summer .... then back up again for the winter I would expect ...

So that means a $30 or so saving ..... I'll believe the projected savings when I see them.

Let's "talk" again next year at this time to see whether we have "saved" anything worth while talking about, or whether over the full 12 month period we will once more have paid more than the previous year.

Anyway, nice to see that they are passing through the lower rates. Maybe they should set up a more responsive system and do it on a monthly basis.
