Faculty at UNBC will vote over the next two weeks on a tentative contract deal.
The package was worked out well ahead of the June 30th expiry date on the current collective agreement.
The deal was developed under the province's $6 billion dollar negotiating framework. It covers approximately 450 people.
While not giving away any of the specifics of the contract, the Advanced Education Minister, Murray Coell did recognize UNBC faces some specific recruitment and retention challenges, "“This compensation package will help the university compete in the international marketplace and attract the number of faculty members it needs to provide the best education for students.”
This is the fifth tentative agreement reached under the Provincial Government's new "negotiating framework" which gives bonuses for contracts reached before current ones expire, and further incentives if the contracts are extended to April 2010.
