It could take more than 3/4 of a million to replace the Pineview Community Hall
The Pineview Community hall was under insured. "Just like every other community hall in the country" says Regional District of Fraser Fort George Director Bob Headrick. He has talked to some builders about what it will take to rebuild the hall that burned down March 6th (see previous story) and the estimates are hard to nail down, "We don't know if we are looking at $125 dollars a square foot or as high as $200 a square foot." says Headrick, who says the price to rebuild could be anywhere from half a million to more than $800 thousand .
Headrick says there is also an issue about the availability of tradespeople to do the work. "Everyone is busy" says Headrick, "and the fact is, they can pretty much name their price."
Insured for $500 thousand, he reminded his Regional District Colleagues there is no telling if the insurance company will come across with all the money, or how much would be left after demolitaion and removal costs are paid. One thing was certain, the contractor who had done some work at the site was owed $61,000.00, and Headrick asked the Regional District for a grant to pay that bill. The Regional District approved the request.
The blaze is believed to have been started by an electrical short in a sump pump housed in a small building behind the Bendixon Road hall.
