Your natural gas bill  will see a decrease as of April 1st.

The BC Utiities commission has approved Terasen's request to  roll back  natural gas prices by eleven percent.

The rate changes will take effect April 1, 2006 for customers in the Lower Mainland, Interior, North and Kootenays. Changes do not apply to customers on Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast and Powell River since they are covered by a different regulatory agreement.

Terasen Gas asked the BCUC for permission to reduce its commodity rates as a result of declining natural gas commodity prices following a warmer than expected winter.

While the BCUC also approved small increases in delivery charges, the net result mean your bill should  be reduced by $155 to $179 a year.

As I recall Terasen does not make any money on the price of natural gas. They buy the gas on the open market and pass it through to us the consumer at cost. Where they make the money is in the delivery charges. So in effect they have given us nothing except an increase in delivery charges which we will notice much more when the cost of gas once again rises due to shortages (Cold Winter) and Terasens delivery charge will remain in effect, which will be a significant increase in revenue for them. Smoke and mirrors can do wonders.
