The Nechako Watershed Council is getting $120 thousand dollars in funding from the Provincial Government to help complete its 10 year strategy planning for a a cold water relase facility at the Kenney Dam.
In announcing the funding in the Legislature, Prince George-Omineca MLA John Rustad said "This important project is expected to bring about a number of positive effects, including lowering risks to Chinook salmon and endangered white sturgeon on the Nechako River through more natural water flow and summer water temperature management. This will in turn increase fisheries-related recreation and tourism opportunities for communities in my riding."
The funding will go towards sediment and hydrothermal studies that will provide key information moving forward towards construction of the cold water release facility.
