PG Gas Prices The First To Jump In The Region

A trip to the pump is going to hit the wallet even harder

As Opinion250 told you yesterday, the price of regular unleaded has jumped to 107.9 in our city, up a whopping six-cents, but how does that compare to the rest of the region?

Well, it appears Prince George is setting the pace -- Quesnel rose to 107.9 last night.  Williams Lake remains at 101.9, but was awaiting word from headquarters to filter in the six-cent hike, pumps in 100 Mile House are still reading 101.9.

And communities to the north, east and west -- Mackenzie, McBride and Vanderhoof, respectively -- all sit at 101.9.

As for how this compares to major centres, MJ Ervin & Associates in Calgary is a private company that specializes in petroleum marketing and price/margin analysis.

In its weekly survey of more than 400 gas station dealers, the price of regular in Kamloops is pegged at 99.9, Kelowna sits at 101.9 and in Victoria, it's 106.9.

I quess that's what happens when you get your gas right from the refinery.
If city council had not encouraged the refinery to stay, and it had closed down, the price would be like anywhere else that has to pay transportation costs - get cheaper fuel.
It all Colin Kinsley's fault!
I am not sure we can put this one on Mr Kinsley's head, much as I would like too.
I will however question the BC Government. They collect tax on every drop sold and if they can get more for that drop they seem to enjoy that extra influx of cash.
I do take issue with the fact that vasncouver has a surcharge on their gas, if I remember at least 7% to help offsset the cost of their rapid transit system. My question is why is our gas price higher than the price there? if it was going to our snail/non-existant transit I would take less issue. I did contact Mr Campbell on this at one time and he just brushed me off with his usual non-coherant verbalization of junk. He doesn't care that the prices are up, he has an expense account....and oh yes we pay for it.
Nothing new in this story. The legalized bandits (gas companies and governments) realize summer is coming as is the long Easter Weekend. The sooner the auto makers stop fighting alternate fuels the better, but I'm not holding my breath. The big oil companies are to deeply rooted in global politics.
Can't wait until we can burn more fuel from grain sources. Wonder if the prices of grain fuel are jumping up along with the rest? Percy
Oil companies are just a bunch of theives, they can charge what ever they like and you will pay. The big excuse this time is that spring is here?

We are pretty near at the high when Katrina hit last year.

Kamloops is paying $109.9. You can buy gas anywhere else cheaper so if you are planning a trip, fill up before you get to Kamloops and save yourself some $$.

Besides NFLD and New Brunswick, BC is the highest priced in the country. Government loves it, they rake in more money and don't bother using the extra to pay for road repairs. Just take a look at the higways around BC

Wait till summer you will see $1.50 easy per liter.
Try www.bcgasbuddies.com and see what the rest of the continent is paying and you will see just how much we are being taken for.
