Prince George resident, Jerry Lode says he fears that someone in his Norwood Street area has taken to either poisoning cats, or mutilating them in some way. "I have lost one cat in the past two weeks, while the neighbors across the street have lost two."

"The six year old boy across the street who was the owner of the two pets is just devastated" Lode said.

Meantime down the street a few houses, a family has lost three cats at their home in the past two weeks.

Lode says "These cats have all been fixed,  they are not coming into heat and leaving home."  In one case one cat returned home and it appeared as though someone had been trying to twist its leg off. This was not accident he said,” You don’t need to be Colombo to figure out what’s going on”.

"Some of these cats are coming home acting like they have been poisoned, and foxes or birds of prey don’t use poison to get their food."  Lode says with six cats missing in the last two weeks its time the public knew about it.

It is unfortunate that we have people out there who do these things. But as a responsible pet owner you keep them home and safe. If you let them roam, and don't be so naive that by fixing them they won't roam, expect that your pet could come into harm either through their own or with wacko help.

MORAL: KEEP YOU PETS AT HOME AND UNDER CONTROL.
You reap what you sow.
I am a cat owner.I also firmly believe that locking a cat in a house 24/7 is a crime. They should be able to have some form of quality of life or whats the point? So based on that belief I also understand that nature is a cruel place and incidents will happen.Cats will be hit by cars, killed by dogs, drink antifreeze and "off" themselves and thats just the way it is.I also understand that people have gardens that cats get into and they have every right to be upset.Humane traps are easy to obtain and can be used to get cats from coming intp your yard and causing problems.Cats are not Pit Bulls...they don't attack peolple and the neighbourhood does not need to be protected from them. They are living creatures and childrens friends. They do not deserve to be poisoned, tortured or killed because they are out for a walk. The comment that "you reap waht you sow" does not apply to what is happening on Norwood street. When cats go out and murder a couple of humans out for a walk then mabey..but in the mean time that comment ("you reap whay yo sow") is as silly as the scenario I just proposed.
I fail to understand why I should have to get a trap to capture YOUR cat. It is up to you to control YOUR cat!

I suggest we license cats the same as dogs as they have in many communities. Since intact cats are the main reason for the growth of feral populations, a license would only be given to those who have neutered cats. If an unlicensed cat is trapped, the recovery fee should be around $100. If the cat is also not sterilized, the cat would have to be sterilized and a fine of $300 or so paid.

And we must not forget the impact of cats on bird wildlife. Each year a cat or two hover around our bird feeder and manage to kill a few that venture onto the ground below which gathers seeds falling from the feeder.

The G spot???? Shouldn't that be the G note?

;-)
...actually it is 90 dollars...
...somebody is torturing and killing living things and they should be stopped... that should be the focus at this point
..and if you actually read the article you would have noticed that all the cats involved had been fixed...
Actually what is $90???

In PG it is unlawful for a dog to be at large. It is not unlawful for a cat to be at large. Both cats and dogs at large can be picked up by the City. However, since it is not illegal for a cat to be at large, one cannot fine someone for that and it is the City which has decided to pick up the animal for what reason? Complaint, I would think.

There is no provision under the fine schedule on page 10 in the document below for fines associated with cats.

There is a maintenance fee according to this schedule.

For cats, it is $6 per day. Thus, a fee of $90 would mean the cat was maintained by the city for 15 days.

Or was your $90 fee different.

Anyway, there is no fine in PG for cats being at large. Anyone who pays a fine is "being had" by someone.
sorry ... forgot to post the link to the animal control bylaw ..

Fixed cats still kill birds, dig up gardens, and cause people like me driving on roads, especially at night, to slam on the brakes as they scurry across roads.
...SPCA charges 90 dollars to get your cat back if brought in by someone in a humane trap...
...and is it just me but why is it un-natural for a cat to kill a bird...i thought that was about as natural as nature gets...
