The RV says it all, it is Census time, and this show is on the road.

“We have four RV’s in the western region, visiting remote areas, to make sure people have access to the information about the May 16th Census” says Sylvie Beauregard, she is the Communications Officer for the Western Region and Northern Territories. It is her job to get the message out that May 16th is Census day in Canada. She says once people realize that counting themselves in could mean more money in transfer payments for their community, they are keen to be “a good Canadian” and fill out the forms.

There are several ways to fill out the forms.
Rural communities may be visited by enumerators who will visit door to door. Urban residents will receive a form in the mail, which they can mail in, or, use the code on the top of the page to file on-line. Sylvie says there is also an opportunity for those who don’t understand English or French to file theirs over the phone, as phone filing service will be offered in 63 different languages.

One thing is certain, you are bound by law to be part of the census. Under the Statistics Act, you must count yourself in. “We will contact you if your form has not been filed” says Sylvie, and will continue to be in touch until the information is gathered. Refusal to provide the information could lead to a $1500 dollar fine. There are 6 or 7 cases that are before the courts.

The budget for the 2006 Census is $566.9 million dollars, about $128 million more than the money spent for the last Census in 2001.

ok, here is my census...
"one" ther rest really doesnt matter.
$1,500 doesn't sound too bad once every five years. What information will the government then get in court? Less than what is on their form, plus any other background the prosecutor can dig up.

If the prosecutor can dig up lots of stuff, why bother me? Just get one branch of the government to fill out the forms for the other branch of the government. In other words the census is just a test to see how compliant and obedient the Canadian population is. I remember Chretien bragging to some Banana Republic how compliant and obedient the Canadian is. Nice to know this is important enough to go to court over.
