The province is pumping $5 million dollars into replacing and updating equipment for trades training at post secondary schools.

Noting tht the need for trades training has bnever been greater, Advanced Education Minister Murray Coell says  “This $5 million will help our colleges, university colleges and institutes provide even better training on modern equipment, ensuring their skills are relevant in today’s world of rapidly changing technology.”

The Trades Training Consortium of B.C., (made up of the public post-secondary institutions in the province that deliver trades training), will be responsible for allocating the funds to institutions.

“The grant from the Ministry of Advanced Education will help trades training students across British Columbia obtain the skills they need and learn on the best equipment available,” said consortium chair Tony Knowles. “We’ll make sure the funding goes where it is most needed.”

The Trades Training Consortium works with the Industry Training Authority, as well as with the Ministry of Advanced Education, other government ministries, and training agencies across British Columbia .

This is wonderful news. Congratulations for pouring more money into the trades.

But, this announcement doesn't address any additional expansion of any of the programs, or any additional spots for more people to participate in the trades. Lack of space and programs are the real issue, not just upgrading the equipment. Percy
So that should translate into about $100,000 to $150,000 to CNC unless they can show that their equipment is more outdated than that in other programs across the province.
