The second year of Forestree Fest is about to get underway.
It will start with an open house at City Hall on the 26th for all residents to review park restoration and planting plans. This is the chance for the public to offer some input before plans are finalized. That open house is set to run from 7 till 9 p.m.
The actual tree planting season starts May 6th with a special event slated to take place from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m at the Railway and Forestry Museum. This event includes a tree planting ceremony, tree planting demonstrations for seedlings and larger potted tree planting, a barbeque, workshops, park replanting plans to view, crafts and activities for children.
The actual planting events are as follows:
May 11 - Moran Park, with D.P.Todd and Heritage School students helping to plant 1:30pm to 2:30pm
May 13 - Fairmont Park, 10:00am -11:30am
May 27 - Lakewood Park, 10:00am - 11:30am
June 11 - Freeman Park, 1:00-2:30
September 9 - Quinson Park, 10:00am -11:30am (includes volunteer appreciation season end celebration)
Those who will be volunteering are asked to bring a water bucket, raingear, enthusiasm and a shovel.
Over 3000 trees were planted in 2005 in ForesTree planting events.
