As Prince George works on developing a new by-law that will allow  retailers  and property owners to be ticketed  for allowing R.V.'s and tourist trailers to park overnight,  Quesnel is sending out a different message.

"It feels pretty good" says one  Quesnel City employee, "First we got the Rocky Mountaineer train tours and now, just in time for summer, we're about to get the RV’s parking here ."

In Quesnel,  its the big box retailers who decide if they want  RV's and travel trailers parked overnight on their property.

Prince George City council has moved to draft a by law that would prohibit big box retailers and facilities such as the Casino from allowing RV’s to park on their property. Under the proposed by law, the owners of the parking lots would be ticketed for allowing the practice (known as Boon Docking) to take place.

Some local RV campsite owners have complained they are losing business to the large parking lots.

In Vanderhoof to the west, The Co-op has a sign which says there is no overnight parking of RV’s but it isn’t enforced, Extra Foods allows overnight parking on their lot, and the town of Vanderhoof has no by law which prohibits the parking of RV’s overnight .

So they fine the retailer. Maybe the reatailers will move on. Signs should be put up that says no parking and then fine those parking there. Enfore the law or remove it.
I can't see a lot of fines being issued as the bylaws enforment on a whole I have found are pretty spineless. They can't seem to be able to ticket loud dogs, unmuzzled dogs or other parking problems.
Maybe the mayor needs a few calls at night telling him that his bylaws people are asleep at the switch. Oh right, I don't beleive that bylaws work at night......
It seems a little dangerous to be parking overnight in a public parking lot.
At least there is no bylaw for parking overnight downtown. Or is there??
I want to see the bylaw people ticket motorbikes with no mufflers, and overly loud music.
And leave the RV'ers alone.
Clean PG up, do NOT run it into the ground with retarded rules.
My opinion.
they should take a drive around town and worry about our failing infrastructure...the condition of the roads is an embarassment to our council and city.
If you want to make the law then post signs and fine the offending RV's not the retailers.
I understand where the RV parks are coming from, but if the Box stores with large lots say they can park there, who are we to grumble.
I also agree that things like street repairs etc. are much more important.
During the PGX... Are the midway acts, people who run the fair, people who have diplays at the fair STILL GOING TO PARK Their TRAILERS FOR A WEEK ON FAIR GROUNDS? IF YES WHY?????????
I see in the newspaper that one of our southern shall I dare use the word friend?,is beating his chest saying that PG is on his list to avoid unless???/ well he is probably one of those who speeds up when you can pass and slows down when you can not paas so I know I won't miss him, he can feel free to stay home an pout if he likes.
My advice to the Campground Owners is to make their campgrounds attractive enough that an RV'er would prefer their facility to a parking lot on the tarmac in the heat.

They don't need city hall protecting their investments.

Let's change the bylaws when they no longer serve our needs. This is one, in my opinion that has outlived it's purpose. Percy
