The new facility will teach the Chinese construction in platform housing. The classes begin May 15th of 2006 with the purpose of growing the markets in not only China but also in Japan, and Korea.

Citing a growing demand for housing in these countries plus India, where Shepherd says there is a growing new middle class in these countries and they are seeking better housing .

At the same time, Shepherd says the acquisition of New South, one of the USA’s larger southern lumber producers, has been a good move. The company he says hope's to expand its significant European market. New South at present is producing about 425 million board feet of lumber each year with its 500 employees.

Shepherd also said the Asian distribution center which is near completiion in Richmond BC will be catering to the Japanese market, Chinese and Korean customers  as it is an area of the world where significant growth is taking place.

Now how did Canfor manage to get all this done, and be in a position to grow their markets in China, Japan, Korea, and India without the help of our Mayor and Initiatives Prince George.??? The distribution centre in Richmond will be stuffing containers for the above Countries if anyones interested.

Perhaps Canfor needs to set up a school here as well to teach economic development offices something about real world marketing. Then again, perhaps it would be better taught directly to small companies.
