Plateau Mills, located west of Vanderhoof in north central BC, is one of the world’s largest low cost producers of lumber in the world.
That comment came from Jim Shepherd CEO of Canfor at the annual general meeting of the company held in Vancouver today.
On the environment side of things, Shepherd says the company has made great strides in the past year. There is a new Co-Gen plant in Prince George which has cut fuel costs significantly and in Houston, the bark fired boiler along with the development of Pinnacle Pellet plant, will mean the elimination of a bee hive burner.
The elimination of that bee hive burner along with a similar facility in FT. St. John which was shut down, means the company no longer has any burners of this type operating in its system.
Valemount had been the other area were a bee hive burner was operating but Canfor no longer owns that company.
