Air Quality Advisory in Effect
By 250 News
The levels of fine particulate are over the target of 50 with a downtown rating of 64, College Heights rating of 25 and a rating of 78 at the BCR site, so the Ministry of Environment has issued an Air Quality advisory for Prince George. Dust and combustible materials are being blamed.
People with cardiac and respiratory diseases should be aware the particulate levels are high enough to cause adverse health effects. Residents should also be aware that, although the ministry only issues advisories when the air quality objective is exceeded, health effect risks from fine particulate start well below that level.
As is always the case when an air quality advisory is in effect, there can be no use of wood stoves, unless it is the only source of heat, no backyard buring, and no burning of slash. This means, there’s no weinie roasting allowed until the air clears, and no street sweeping.

So ..... why, if it is road dust, and there is barely any traffic at night and the wind is calm to not kick up any dust by itself, would anyone even consider that road dust is a significant contributor in the BCR industrial site.
The wind has been from the north and west in recent days .... it switched to southerly late Tuesday night, early Wednesday morning. So the industrial generated PM is now blown towards the monitor rather than away from it.
The ministry and the City, as well as the UNBC (who all sit on the Air Quality Implementation Committee, along with industrial representatives and no member of the general public) should be taken to task for feeding this community a bunch of biased information. They have been studing this thing to death for 10 years and have accomplished absolutely nothing other than meet.
