As firefighters battle a blaze west of Prince George, investigators are trying to find the cause.
There are 40 firefighters battling the fire. Five pieces of heavy equipment, helicopters and air tankers are on standby. The fire is in the Telachick Road area, between Beaverly and Isle Pierre. While there are some homes in the area, winds last night helped push the fire away from residential areas.
Its estimated 40 hectares of forest are in flames.
Since the beginning of the fire season (April 1st) there have been 92 forest fires in the Prince George District. That is nearly one half of all the forest fires reported so far this year in the province (214) and with more than 13 hundred hectares lost to flames, the Prince George fires have consumed more than half the provincial forest lost to flames so far this season.
