Fund For Cougar Clawing It's Way to Goal
By 250 News
The fund to help build an enclosure for Helena the cougar is growing, although there is still a long way to go. (see previous story)
With nearly $11 thousand collected so far, (the halfway mark) there is confidence the balance can be raised so they have started the construction of an enclosure.
Originally, it had been hoped Helena, rescued following the Kelowna fires, would be returned to the wild, however, a change in government policy meant that couldn’t happen. The folks at the Northern Lights animal rescue/rehab centre in Smithers need $22 thousand dollars to build an enclosure that will meet government standards, meaning, steel posts and special guage wire.
The enclosure must be built within three months, or Helena will have to be destroyed.
Donations can be made at the Prince George Cougar’s offfice at CN Centre.
