Council has approved the rezoning of a piece of property to allow for the expansion of  the Northland Dodge car dealerships.  The rezone also involved a change to the Official Community Plan which had a piece of the property  as part of Carrie Jane Grey Park. That change was also approved.'

Council  has also approved  a change of lot development on Greenwood Street in the Woodlands Subdivision.  The matter was viewed as a houskeeping matter  that  would clear the way for phase two of the development.

There was also approval given for a piece of property on North Kelly Road which  would allow for the development of a landscaping business.  City Administration  supported the rezoning  saying it is in keeping with the development in the area, and in this case, expressed confidence the current road structure could handle the  increased traffic.

It was the rezone application for Prudente Road that has raised some concern.  While City Admininstration  supported the  change, which will allow for more residential development, there is opposition from neighbours.

Originally, this property was held for future school development, but the school district doesn't need the property.  The property in question is 2.39 hectares. Development Services Manager Dan Milburn says the development of the property would allow for some infill on property that is no longer needed to fill the school requirment of the Official Community Plan.  The design would create 17 lots and "bare land strata".

Resident Joan Nesbitt says the notification  the public meeting was too short,  she says she checked the City's website to see the piece of property was listed as Urban residential, even though a public meeting had yet to be held.  Nesbitt presented a petition with 30 names on behalf of the people  in the neighbourhood.  She pointed out the greenspace has deciduous trees, and is home to three species of woodpeckers and  wild foxes.

Councilors Don Bassermann and Don Zurowski say this infill  development is current and the right thing to do.  The Mayor says he too supports the  development saying it will enhance the City's ability to provide services.  With that, the quetion ws called, and the rezone was unanimously approved.
