Board Moves Forward to Close Bear Lake School
By 250 News
WIth only a slim chance of there being just one student enrolled at Bear Lake School for this fall, School District 57 has moved forward with plans to close Bear Lake School.
District Superintendant Dick Chambers says the Board met with residents in late April and residents expressed sadness that the school was to be closed, but were appreciative the school had been kept open for as long as it had.
The community was accepting of the decision, said acting Chair Lois Boone, and expressed their concerns about how students would be transported to other schools, which may be Salmon Valley or Springwood Elementary.
Trustee Lynn Hall says although the community was accepting of the decision, it still is not an easy move to make, and he asked if the Superintendant would approach the Regional District to see if they would have any interest in using the building.
