The Province’s Industry Training Authority is patting itself on the back for having exceeded its apprentice and training targets and for seeing more businesses taking on and sponsoring those trainees and apprentices.

Here are some of the targets, and the current numbers being touted by the ITA:

Category   2005/06 Target2005/06 Actual% Above Target
Trainees24,000    26,525    10.5%
Employers  8,500  8,819 3.8%
Youth  2,500  3,25930.4%

The ITA now says the number of apprentices in B.C. has climbed 80% since 2004 and  that in the past 12 months,  nearly three thousand  industry training "tickets" have been issued.

The CEO of the  ITA,  Brian Clewes, says there are two main  factors for the Authority’s success "A strong BC economy  and the more relevant, flexible programs and policies we’ve worked hard to put in place."

The key to success here is jobs available to BC youth and not the importation of cheep labour.

This shows that the market works and imported cheep labour only devalues market forces while undermining the integrity of the Canadian worker.
