There is a special meeting of teachers local Presidents set for today.  They will be discussing the latest offer put forth by the BCPSEA.  The BC Teachers Federation has already labelled the offer as "an insult to BC Teachers."

The offer, according to the BCTF proposed a salary increae of 8 % over 4 years, with 1.5% in the first year, 2% in the second and third years, and  2.5% in the fourth.  The BCTF  had  been hoping for an increase that was closer to 20%.  The federation points to other settlements  including  the range of nearly 17% for  nurses and the 19% some specialist physicians will get.

The teachers offer also includes the signing bonus.  That  bonus is on the table if the teachers  can reach a deal by June 30th.

The radical and extreme left leadership of the BCTF will always be insulted. Their leaders have banged the table and hollered so often it has become just entertainment for most taxpayers.
But, we are lucky the BCTF doesn't have all the authority they would like! The BCTF might order a purge like Stalin did to address preceived insults.
Teaching requires bossy people, so they get a bit carried away with the boss thing. Bossy's do not stand for people telling them NO!
I used to support the BCTF but not any more. BCTF has advised the teachers and sent a letter to all the PAC's telling them that teachers in the future will not take on any leadership roles within the school. This puts a hamper on things as often a principal needs a teacher to take a concept and run with it or the teacher actually wants to do it but now their union is saying don't ! People get involved with your PAC at your school as things are changing and if you don't speak up the government and unions will once again put their interests ahead of your child's education.

Well, there we go again. Endless strife between the government de jour and the teachers.

It is as predictable as birch pollen and hay fever.

Back to the picket lines, everybody, except Jinny Sims. Is Cancun too hot at this time of the year?
