There was no  discussion, no fan fare,  just a motion to scrap the plan and the motion was passed unanimously.

The plan for a regional  fire training facility to be located at P.G. Airport has been scrapped, as has the committee that was exploring the project.   Why?  No reason to beleive it could be  financially sustainable.

The project has been under consideration for a couple of years, but the latest business plan says  it likely wouldn’t survive for the follolwing reasons:

-insufficient evidence that  there would be enough  revnue to keep it alive.

-compeititon,  there are existing fire training facilities in Fort St. James and 100 Mile House,

- the City of Quesnel anticipates building a new burn facility in 2006,

- a major component of the training can be done in house at local fire halls; specialized burn training will be

available through the Quesnel and Fort St. James facilities, and

- aviation training may not be feasible because of the specialized training that has to be offered and the limited number of firefighters that need to be trained.

Another nothing for Pr Geo
The case must have been weak one for a regional fire training facility in PG. I believe we need to be more proactive, more committed, more determined, more supportive, more involved, more aware, more knowledgeable about anything we want located in Prince George.

I would like to suggest that a public awareness campaign for the need for a regional fire training facility would have been much more helpful in this application.

If public support was more visible, maybe the outcome may have been different. The lack of public response indicates that maybe they didn't buy into it in the first place. Chester
