BCTV is reporting that the family of Ian Bush has filed a lawsuit.  Ian died late last October while in police custody in Houston.  He had been taken into custody for having an open beer, and for obstructing justice when he gave an officer a false name.

Somehow, Ian ended up being shot in the back of the head.

RCMP conducted both a criminal and internal investigation of the shooting, and both reports are now being reviewed.  The Coroner has said there will be an inquest once the investigations have been completed.

According to BCTV, the suit  names RCMP Constable Paul Koester, the Office of the Attorney General and the Office of the Solicitor General.  The report also says the suit seeks damages from all three for lost income as Ian was giving his mother financial assistance, and asks the court to award punitive damages.

This still disgusts me more than i can say.

The police take our tax dollars in pay and swear to serve and protect us.
Then they shoot an unarmed man in the back of the head.
Along with the travesties they have done in the Merrit area, and stanley park beatings etc.
And i bet we actually only hear of a small percentage of the corruptness.
It makes me sick every time i drive through Houston as I remember what happened to Ian, and his family and friends.
I hope the justice system final helps correct a huge wrong, and deals severely with the cop that shot him.... and the police force is made to clean up their act.

God Bless you all that knew and Loved him.
The cops aren't perfect, and can be really nasty sometimes, but I still stand with the system. The bad ones get weeded out.
Marty...I bet you will phone the RCMP When your in need of protection. The family does not seem to care what happened,JUST GIVE US MONEY..The family does not what to wait for the investigtionto finish to find out if the RCMP were wrong..NO give us MONEY NOW...Bloodsuckers
Don, grow up and think for a second.

What else can they do.

Our stupis laws leave them no other way to punish than to sue for money.
Look into and then get back to me.
Maybe have a clue, before spewing stuff on here.
I am sure the family would rather have the cop and all his supervisors put in prison or given a death penalty, rather than money.
I know I sure would if he was my son....but in Canada that is not possible.
If you do not believe me call the copshop and ask them directly.

and have a good day Don.
