The  presentation told how the Team had met with people from Government, Tourism, Media and the Olympics.  The team says it also made some discoveries during the trip including;

-Government and VANOC need B.C. communities to create the Olympic spirit

-funding is already available, more will come if "we can prove ourselves"

-define how P.G. wants to  present itself and the region eg:  nature, wood expertise, high performance sport, world class education

Team Member Tom Berekoff says other communities were impressed that Prince George went to the games with a strategic plan, "We went with a plan, hosted an event, left materials behind, most other communities just went to the games, we really had the world stage for that window of time" said Berekoff.

"We really have a critical mass here to make sport an integral part of what Prince George has to offer."

There are some next steps:

-Direct folllowup with the managers of sport in the various countries they made contact with. Virginia Spranger will head to Europe later this week with a soccer group to talk to some of the European coaches on training in P.G.

-There are discussions to have Prince George  given official training community status with VANOC

-followup discussions with business contacts made during the games

"There is a major role for Prince George to play in the years leading up to 2010 and during 2010 itself" says Gerry Offet who wrapped up his presentation by saying  "Our conclusion is that even at this point, this was money well spent."

There have  been some enquiries about training in Prince George says Virginia Spranger, "We may possibly have the Chinese women's hockey team coming here to train and take classes at UNBC, there is also some interest in curling training."

Councilor Basserman says there should be a plan for "Team Beijing" to keep taking Prince George to the World!

When this trip was set up the City paid the $38000.00 to send four of the members while the cost of the remaining three came out of Initiataives Prince George's core budget. Therefore we can assume that the real cost of this trip would be in the area of $70,000.00 to $80,000.00. IPG of course gets its revenue from the City, however it appears they do not have to explain where or how the money is spent. In any event $80,000.00 probably covers the costs, and now we can wait and see what the benifets will be.
Team Beijing? Can I apply to be on that team. Hs the good councillor fogotten that the purpose of team Torino was to make people in the Olympics aware that PG could be used as a training facility for the Vancouver Olympics.

That is a bit of a stretch, but much more believable that PG could be a training centre for the summer Olympics following Beijing.

If we want to show off PG to the rest of the world, there are hundreds of venues every year by way of very well attended trade shows which would make more sense to attend, and very little sense at that.

Try the Cannes film festival - we have been a film location city.

How about the Biennale di Venezia - we have artists to show the rest of the world ..

or the PhotoKina in COlogne, the largest photography trade show in the world .. we have a wonderful natural outdoors for photoshoots ...

I'll volunteer my time to represent PG at any one of those or similar world events.
