If you were scheduled to be at the Prince George Regional Hospital today for surgery that requires a  hospital stay, you already know this story.

People who require a bed at PGRH have had their surgery cancelled.

In the case of one new patient who left his home 300 miles west of here to be at the hospital for surgery, he may not be happy to know the trip was for nothing.
About 10 to 14 people are expected to be affected by the surgery cancellation.
As one Doctor put it, "The whole list for May 31st is affected because there are no beds."

The Physician added, "When they were building the new hospital we (the docs ) told them that this is going to be a lovely brand new facility but there aren’t enough beds, well now they are just proving it to us."

The Physician says  the new facility will be of little comfort to someone who had planned for their surgery "You tell that to the patients who have booked baby sitters, taken time off work, or are traveling hundreds of miles that we can’t look after them. Never mind the fact that many of these people are suffering, that’s the reason they’re here for surgery.  No one seems to want to talk about it and at the very least they should be trying to ease the problem with a little publicity to let these people know what’s going on."

When reached for comment, Northern Health Communications Director Mark Karjaluoto said he was not aware of the situation and would be checking into it this morning.

But the economy is doing so well and the Provincial Liberal government is giving us so much. I guess they need all the money for 2010.
As I said before Gordon Campbell refuses to listen to those who actually know what situations are, be they doctors, teachers, nurses or the disabled. He continues to arrogantly assume that he knows what is right and wrong when in fact the man does not have a clue. He only understands money and how to funnel it to his freinds. Wait a minute that seems to desribe all of our politicians regardless of their party. We live in very sad and troubling times. Our leaders don't even understand that the drains must be the lowest point in the bathroom floor and not the highest.
I also don't understand why we do not have enough doctors and nurses in the public system but, there seems to be no shortages to allow opening private facilities. How can you tell when a politician is lying? Their lips are moving.
Campbell no longer has to listen to us since forming all the health regions across the province. All he did was pass the buck to the health regions and now they have to answere for all the deficiencies in the system.
This adds another draine on the funding. The regions are now busy building another empire. It would be interesting what the cost of these empires actually are. The CEO makes as much money as some of our doctors.
The last time I used the hospital in the early 90's the entire fourth floor had only a few beds in it the rest was being used to store junk. The care was so bad that I finaly got up dressed and left the hospital. They certainly were not improving my condition (asthma).
