If the Prince George Cougars were a goalie, this could be the "save" of the season.

The life of Helena the Cougar has been spared, as the hockey club, fans and friends donated money and made pledges totalling the needed $22,000 dollars to build a new, permanent enclosure for the cat at the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter in Smithers.

Helena had been rescued following the Kelowna wildfires and sent to the Shelter to recoup.  Since that time, regulations have changed and her keepers were advised they would have to provide a new, more secure enclosure, or, have her put down.

Cougars Business Manager, Brandi Brodsky is happy with the outcome " “We are extremely proud to have helped secure a safe living environment for Helena. We would like to extend our appreciation to all those who helped contribute to the success of this initiative”.  Brodsky says  the Cougars organization would like to take an active approach in helping the Northern Lights Wildlife Shelter’s efforts.

Donations will still be accepted at the Cougars office and will be eligible for a charity tax receipt.  All donations will go towards Helena’s upkeep and improvements to her enclosure.

Farewell if the cougars were to move.
I stopped going to games as I thought a team of that level should be making better choices.
My 2 cents
ps. I am glad the cougar is fine and has a new home.
