It is a plan worth half a billion dollars, and it has just cleared another step on the road to reality.

Kitimat LNG Inc. of Calgary has received a provincial environmental assessment certificate for the construction and operation of a proposed liquefied natural gas terminal.

The terminal would be located at Bish Cove, about 14 km south of Kitimat.

Issues and concerns raised by the Haisla First Nation, the public and the government have been addressed.

The project, which calls for storage facilities,  regasification and send-out pipeline,  a marine terminal and an access road.will now need approval by the Federal Ministry of Environment before being allowed to proceed.

The project  will create some 700 jobs during the construction stage, and 50 full time jobs during its expected 30 years of operations.

80% of Europes imported natural gas comes from Russia, and the other 20% from Algeria where Russia has been buying up the industry. Europe is desperate to diversify their LNG sources considering their situation. I think this is going to become a massive industry in the years to come.
It will take another fifteen years to get it processed by Ottawa. Don't start buying a spec house in Kitimat just yet.
I trust there will be a goodly number of residents looking seriously at a move to Kitimat. I noted when I visited Kitimat it was a very clean city, and that beckoning Douglas Channel appeals to a lot of fishermen.
Returning to Kitimat from miles out that channel when a storm blows up is quite a challenge. What a relief it is when the boat is docked and one gives thanks for arriving safely back on dry land. Downright scarey, to say the least!!!!!
Any news re massive projects anticipated in this province are most welcome.
Best we do not forget the years of hardship imposed on this province when the N D P were in power.
I, for one, do not think people would be foolish to invest in the Terrace-Kitimat area.
Quite an appealing part of the province, in more ways than one!!!!
The Government is certainly attempting to also pay attention to the highway west to Rupert.
Sends a further message--doesn't it????
