Becoming a Tourist Right Here at Home

This is a big weekend for anyone wanting to explore P.G. as many of the attractions in and around town are open at reduced rates, or , in some cases, offering free entry.
Its part of the “Celebrate Prince George” project which is aimed at either introducing local residents to some of the attractions in town, or refreshing their memory.
The City’s Doug Hofstede says the idea is a spill off from a similar event held last year to celebrate Prince George’s 90th Anniversary “That anniversary was in March, so some attractions like the Huble Homestead weren’t open for the season but the response was very good.”
Hofstede says often when family and friends come to town, we forget what the region has to offer, and don’t take full advantage of some of the attractions which we often take for granted.
The attractions, many of them operated by non profit groups, are expecting increased traffic today and tomorrow. Hofstede says the event last year drew about 2,000 people to the Railway Museum and Exploration place, “The railway museum was so busy” says Hofstede, “They said their mini-rail carried as many passengers over the two days as it had the entire year previous!.”
Here are some of the highlights of events:
-Two Rivers Art Gallery, Free admission. Sunday the Gallery offers a Family Sunday -Fun program from 2-4 admission is $5.00 per person, $10 per family.
-Exploration Place $5.00 admission
-Railway Museum Free admission ride the mini rail for $2.00
-Huble Homestead Strawberry Festival, live music, pony rids, from 10- 4:00 strawberries and ice cream served at 2:00 minimal fees for some activities and food.
