A few months ago Kraft and CBC initiated a friendly nation wide competition to determine the title of "HOCKEYVILLE".  Since that time .....McBride and area embraced the idea ( more like grabbed it by the horns) made an application to Kraft/CBC, and we have enbarked on this incredible journey of community spirit, commitment to the cause( hockey and to each other) to show Canada why McBride should be HOCKEYVILLE".

McBride does not have some of the ammenities other communities have such as a swimming pool, a theater, or bowling alley.........but we do have an arena !!!!

A huge part of our area population is involved in hockey. And it shows.......for all of our community events, we have consistently had 80% of residents participating. !!!!! Whether it's a parade, a health walk, street hockey games, fund-raiser,........McBride and area supporters are there in droves !!!!!!

We took on a "blue theme" for the competition in order to be a bit different.........and that completely ran amok in McBride ..........Blue hair, blue horses, blue dogs, blue businesses and decorations, blue everything !!! We'll be "blue" til the gold shines through !!

There were 450 Canadian communities who applied, all of them given the same formula : "Community spirit plus hockey equals HOCKEYVILLE". 

After a review by the 5 celebrity judges...the competition was cut to 50. From there Kraft/CBC  delegated  a few specific tasks to each community in order to showcase their spirit!  Each community was visited by CBC films crews to capture festivities. After another judges review ...  we were cut to the top 25 .....5 communities from the 5 Canadian regions. 

So that's where we stand currently..........McBride is proud to be considered with the other 24 showcased communities !!!  

Tonight is a big night for McBride ......the show tonight will cut to the top 10 communities ...then to the top 5 !!! We hope to be among the remaining 5!!!

Sundays CBC show will proclaim the WINNER !!!  The rewards include $10,000.00 worth of hockey equipment to each of the Top 5 , the winner gets $ 50,000.00 for arena improvements, and gets to host an NHL Exhibition game in their arena !!!!!

For McBride it has been an incredible journey.....our residents have been fantastic, supportive and have come together as always ........working together !!!  This small town of 750+/- has the heart of a million residents !!!!

I have taken up residence on the roof of the Village office in support of our great Hockeyville team and McBride area residents and will stay camped up 24/7 til we are either eliminated or we win !!!!
