There has yet to be a reported case of West Nile Virus in B.C., but the City of Prince George has adopted a plan to deal with WNV if it ever comes here.
Working with Northern Health, a four stage “Alert” system has been developed.
Stage 1:            No West Nile in the Province (the stage we are in now)
Stage 2:            WNV detected in B.C but not in Prince George
Stage 3:            WNV detected in Prince George
Stage 4:            WNV in Prince George, and in Human Cases.
In all four levels, the focus is on increasing the intensity of surveillance of mosquito pools, increasing communication and education, and boosting mosquito control.
