Today marks the half way point of the firearms amnesty underway in the province of B.C.

Province wide, the RCMP are hailing the  amnesty as a big success saying they have collected nearly 300 firearms including:

43 handguns and 10 prohibited firearms. Nine semi-automatic rifles were also turned into the RCMP, as were 6,713 rounds of ammunition.

Some of the more unusual items handed in include a 1942 German Luger, two tiny .22 calibre pistols and 1.5 pounds of gunpowder.

In Prince George, the numbers form a small fraction of the provincial picture.

Police in P.G..have received two calls to pick up a total of three firearms.

The first call was to pick up a .22 rifle.

The second call came from a woman who said she had discovered two firearms in her attic, and had no idea who they may have belonged to.  In that case police picked up a 30-30 rifle and a .22

The amnesty is in effect until the 30th.  The Solicitor General says the amnesty has been set up to allow people who no longer want to have the firearms, dispose of the items without fear of facing charges.
