A grade 12 student from Duchess Park is the 2005 Youth of the Year.
Tina Sidorov was given the official recognition at City Hall last night.
The Youth of the Year Award was set up in 1985 to recognize the outstanding contributions made by youth in the community.
Nominees are considered for their academeic achievements, extra curricular activities and volunteer contributions in the community.
Tina has been actively volunteering since she was in grade 7. She teaches cross country skiing to little ones at the Caledonia Nordic Ski club. She coordinated the Great Canadian Lakeshore Cleanup last year, and worked on the Salvation Army's Christmas Hamper Drive and the SPCA's Santa Photo Shoot. She has donated time to the Festival of Trees, and was a junior counsellor at Exploration Place Science Alliance Camp.
She has been a peer Tutor at school, developed welcoming tours for grade 7 students and was the student representative for the School Planning Council
