Frank Everitt of Steelworkers-IWA 1-424 says things look good for a deal with Lakeland Mills and the Trucking Association. They are hoping for a deal perhaps as early as this evening.
Meantime the group continues to talk to the contractors at Canfor. "They don’t want us to deal directly with Canfor," Everitt says "and we have agreed to deal through them as long as it is a clear flow through."
"It is a larger group than we have been dealing with" says Everitt, "And building a trust has taken some time."
Everittt concluded by saying the contractors and the mills have to realize the truckers have been taking it on the chin and there has to be a realization they have to start dividing up more of the profits for people working in the bush and that includes all of the workers.
An agreement between the trucker log haulers and Winton Global was reached a few weeks ago.
