Search Efforts on the Bulkley River

 RCMP to the east and west of Smithers launched search efforts Sunday, after separate accidents in the Moricetown and Telkwa areas.

In the first incident Sunday morning police say a  small SUV believed to have just one occupant went off the Telkwa High Road, and ultimately plunged into the Bulkley River in Moricetown.

Last night RCMP were called to Telkwa, to a report a vehicle with two occupants had also gone into the river after its driver failed to make a curve in the road.

High water levels, and swift currents had prevented searchers including police, fire officials, conservation officers and search and rescue teams from locating either of the vehicles or their occupants.

No names have been released - police say they are still working to confirm the identities of the people involved in the mishaps.
