Experimental Burn Put Off
By 250 News
An experiment to find out how fire behaves in pine beetle-killed forests has been put on hold, says the B.C. Forest Service.
The burn was planned to start this past weekend in a series of plots at the study site at Carrott Lake. However, the research and operations team has postponed ignition due to weather conditions.
Some slash burning to assist in fire containment was completed, and sprinkler systems were installed to protect the plots that aren’t part of the first phase of the study. While no actual test burning has yet been started, the team did gather valuable data about moisture levels, fuel loading, and ignition probability.
A crew of three firefighters will remain to perform daily patrols of the slash-burned area to ensure no smouldering spots remain. The Forest Service will resume the experimental burn when conditions are more favourable. Currently, the fire danger level is high to extreme throughout the Prince George Fire Centre area.

Doesn't anyone from the Fire Service or Ministry of Environment have any knowledge of the air quality concerns we have been complaining about this past 6 months?
