The Northern Health Authority is making plans for a special conference this fall to tackle the problem of fatal motor vehicle accidents.

“A number of stakeholders have come forward to discuss new ideas for reducing the trauma and higher fatality rates that Northern BC residents face from motor vehicle crashes. We’re working to organize our conference in the fall with partner organizations and agencies from across the North." said NH Board Chair Jeff Burghardt.

According to the 2003 Stats compiled by police forces across the province ( the latest year for which stats are available), 443 people died in 49,777 investigated motor vehicle accidents in B.C. (a little less than 1% of all accidents in the province involved a fatality)

Prince George numbers for the same year indicated that of the 389 collisions investigated by police, there were eleven deaths, meaning about 2.8% of the accidents in Prince George involved a fatality.

Wow, if there was a top prize for "stupid" this Northern Health Board would be first in line. How can anyone predetermine if a MVA will be fatal, as a simple fender bender can be fatal, does not have to be total destruction of a vehicle. Must be some soothsayers attending this conference???? And we pay these people??? Don't we????
