Don’t you suppose that before we drop another 90 grand of the taxpayer’s money into yet another study of the down town that we ought to spend, Oh say 200 bucks to have the weeds removed from around the trees on 3rd?

For your information folks at City Hall, that is the street  we dropped a few million to spruce up.
Well the trees having been dieing, no thanks to the people who frequent the area and tend to use them as there own "break off what ever you want its okay",  but the problem of the weeds growing around the base of those trees is yet another matter.

If you want those merchants, or what is left of them,  to go out and clean up the mess, then you had better tell them.

You also might want to re think those little lamps posts which get kicked off faster than a field goal at a BC Lion’s game.    In fact, even the big light standards aren't  doing too well.

You might also want to blow the dust off some of those multitudes of past studies that examined what is needed in the down town.

We are constantly told, all you need is people living down town and the area will change. Well take a walk along the avenue’s at night, or for that matter during the day, and then write and tell me if that’s the kind of area you would like to live in.  If you do, then the Backpacker Motel's new homeless shelter, must be right up your alley.

That is one man's opinion

Why not go up to the leaky Hilton on the hill and round up a bunch of their finest tennants, then walk(not drive them)downtown to pull weeds, paint over graffiti, pick up needles, condoms and all that other stuff. After they The city would win and the prisoners would get some excesize and the ability to give back to the community.
ROCK
Rock, you really have to stop coming up with these brilliant ideas!!! You will never get elected to city council, should you decide to run, as you are just too capable of utilizing
common sense. Guess you don't know these tenants cannot be forced to work. Against their "human rights." Why not make the guilty offenders pick up 50 feet each time before the free meal at a soup kitchen??? Like teaching kids to clean up their act!!! Not a chance-you say???? Pity!!!!
Gypsy,
not to forget that the good old boy's at CUPE may have a problem with the whole thing.
ROCK
I think those "weeds" as you call them are part of the "Communities in Bloom" competition .....

The greening of downtown...
What will happen to all those weeds, lamp posts, brickwork etc., when they begin installing that hot water system to keep the snow melted off the streets??? Isn't that the next millions of dollars to be spent by the city on this proposed project?? Going to heat some buildings also, but they will not be privately owned. Have to save the governments money also at the taxpayers expense again. Anyone know when this expenditure is about to begin. There goes our taxes again. You can bet on that. Keep that 90 grand out of the hands of Offet and let it go to this next waste of time and money.
Anyhow it is now time to pay up and shut up, so divvy up those property taxes by or on the 8th.
The city must have made a pot full collecting for taxes and all utilities on all those vacant houses and buildings for years. Did not seem to make any difference as the mill rate went up anyhow??? No water to supply, no sewer flowing, no garbage to pick up!!!!And no savings!!! I have to take time off to "go figure." Somebody help me, if you have any answers!!! I seem to be at a loss.
