Prince George City Council has approved the first three readings of a bylaw that would allow the City to charge a special tax for tree planting in the downtown.

Under the special Local Area Service bylaw, property owners within the designated area would be required to pay a fee based on frontage . The amount would be $85.09 per metre of frontage within the area, or abutting the area.

The total cost of the tree planting project is estimated at $138,000.00. The Local Area Service fee would allow the City to recover approximately one half of that cost.

The city wants the home owner to pay for trees the city wants?

Did i read that correctly?!

If i did the people at the city need a slap.

If they want to plant damn trees get permission first from the home owner, and if anything pay them for the disturbance you caused them city.

What a moronic idea.

Maybe we should all go plant some trees on the front lawn of city hall and then send the city a bill for them....I could use the extra gas money for my boat, since gas prices just jumped again.
You should make them pay for half ot the leaf clean up too..... let's see.....$20 per hour and double time on weekends...

Gofaster, no one in the City Parks Department works for $20/hr. $20/hr is history, no one works for that low wage at the city anymore. They also each get a pick-up to cruise around in.

Mind you some pick-ups aren't brand new anymore, but they are all newer than mine!
Yama.....I don't do leaf clean up unless it is on the weekend...I am sure the city would be a little miffed if they got a bill for $40 per hour and with 2 coffee breaks, a lunch break and 4 or 5 smoke breaks and a stop or two to admire the scenery, that should translate into about 10 or 12 hours per 8'x100 foot lot...no problem... that should help marty with the gas problem too....lol
Gofaster,

you got that right.
With the amount of breaks they take, i doubt they actually "WORK" more than an hour per shift.
Ah, it's a great life!
$ 138,000 dollars for how many trees? Pine trees? Gee whiz! That's a lot of money. Enough for another trip somewhere by the mayor and his bunch. Still, $138,000 is a lot of money. Can't they buy the trees wholesale? Or are they imported? The mind boggles. Someone gonna tell me that there is a shortage of trees and they have to pay this?
