The City of Prince George could make some significant inroads in further reducing  greenhouse gas emissions if all the recommendations presented to Council were adopted.

The report "Partners for Climate Protection, Milestones One and Two"indicates  the City, residents and industry all have a role to play in reducing  greenhouse gasses.  The report offers several suggestions including increased recycling, a switch to LED lighting, retrofits to City buildings,  reduced driving time in city vehicles,  and the use of low flow toilets, as ways to achieve  goals.

Here is the report’s summary of what could be achieved by the City:

The report also outlines what could be achieved by residents and industry:

What the report doesn’t offer is any idea on what the cost would be to achieve some of the goals.  That information won’t be ready until the local action plan has been developed.  That plan will set out details of targets and costs.

The local action plan is currently under development.

Mayor Kinsley says it is important to note Prince George’s emissions are one half the rate of other city’s of similar size in the country.
