It has taken a lot of work, and a lot of patience, but the third floor renovation at G.R. Baker hospital in Quesnel is now open.  Premier Gordon Campbell did the official ribbon cutting this afternoon, marking the completion of the $5.26 million dollar renovation.

In his remarks, the Premier noted the new  floor brings together  intensive care, maternity cases, surgical and surgical care in a well laid out plan that not only improves health care services for the people in and around Quesnel, but improves the working environment for the staff at G.R. Baker.

The newly completed floor also provides more private and semi-private rooms for patients.

Dr. Roger Tete, the Chief of Staff at G.R. Baker said he remembered back in 1998 when he and his family moved to Quesnel and he would look at the grey shell of a third floor and wonder when or if it would ever be completed. "I am here to represent all of the members on the health care team, and this is a very exciting day for us."  He admitted that while construction was underway, he would sneak upstairs after hours to ensure the work was really being done.

The head of the Cariboo-Chilcotin Regional Health District,  Al Richmond says he is now waiting for the next steps, namely the  arrival of a CT scanner for G.R. Baker, and improvements to assisted living facilities.
