New Technology Holding Promise: One Man's Opinion

If the process works, it could mean that instead of rumors, we could see some serious exploration in the Nechako Basin for gas and oil in the near future.

The process has helicopters flying over ground that has been covered with lava from pre historic times, and through the use of a special detection device, finding the oil and gas beneath that layer of ancient lava.

That is what is being tested in Alberta, and if successful, we could see that same system deployed in this province.

In the meantime, the rumours that continue to float around the city that major gas companies have leased space here, are just that, rumours.

Not one single lease has been let by any of the major drillers and that will have to come first.

In the meantime, the drilling is hot and heavy to the north of us at Tumbler Ridge and north of that towards Dawson Creek.

The amount of activity has made the province very wealthy in recent months from the sales.

There have always been feelings in the oil industry that the Nechako Basin contains a large amount of gas and oil, but as one drilling official said recently in an Opinion 250 interview , "Why would we drill in your area on a gamble, when we can hit pay dirt every time to the north?"

The province has set aside money to hand over to the first few people who take the plunge.  Whether it will be enough to get the ball rolling we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime our hopes rest with a new technology that just may take the guess work out of the gas and oil industry in this region.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.

Rumors are abound about the gas and oil but the one that I keep hearing is about a refinery going in at Salmon Valley. Have you heard if there is any truth to that?
I heard a rumor Shell would be putting in a refinery North of town. Time Will Tell
Maybe, and the gas will still be sold to the USA and Vancouver cheaper than here.....I never could undertand that.....
I costs the south less and yet it costs more to ship it...and we get soaked......
Gas costs more in Prince George because the people of Prince George are centrally located and there is no competition. We are being hosed by the gas companies. Gas in Hope on Thursday was 108 per litre. Surrey was 114. There is no mystery here, just business's who know that we will always pay the going rate, which I might add for those who have not lost there senses altogether converts to ***$5.40*** per gallon.

Go buy some more suckers. As the price goes up our different levels of Government make more money, so dont expect any help from them.

As for the Nechako Basin. If you enter **Nechako Basin** into Yahoo Canada you will get all the information you need on whats available, or supposed to be available in the Nechako Basin.

Our Provincial Governments has reams of information on the Nechako Basin which dates back to the late 70's and early 80's. No big secrets here. The final conclusion by Canadian Hunter who did a lot of exploration in the area is that it was not feasible at that time. This is a prime example of smoke and mirrors, and it will not clear until after the next election.

Dream on.
Yes-you can fool some of the people some of the time, and apparently enough of them to avoid issues that create embarassment.
If there is so much money why are they even proposing to toll all bridges on the lower mainland?
Are we prepared to accept the cost over runs for the 2010 Olympics, which are surely a given?
Are we ready for the lay offs when mills are closed, as wood is not in sufficient supply to keep them running?
When they stop "spoofing" us on this oil and gas exploration, are we prepared for their next spin?
When there is a shortage of money to pay all these public servants their healthy pay increases, are we ready to empty our pockets to keep them all happy?
When this proposed 4 lane highway becomes a discussion of the past, will we be willing to sit back and say, "It really was a preposterous idea anyhow?" Can you believe how long they have been working just south of Stoner, and what that cost has consisted of-and is it really just for a new south scale?
Rumor has it 15 additional mines are to open? How about some reporting on this claim?
Let's fly at the crack houses, homeless, drug addicts, needle exchange programs, prostitutes, gambling, wonderful downtown revitalization, (how the condos are selling), and why the city pays $3300.00 a tree for beautification,( to have them peed on and driven over), potholes, weed program, work initiative for the poor homeowners who are forced to suffer the cost of removal of beetle kill trees,(by the way, where do these trees end up)? the fate of the golf club, and if the taxpayer will be responsible for it's failure when relocated? and how many trips has the mayor slated for his enjoyment in the coming months?
Sure too bad I do not give a damn. Just wondering how much the general public will have to suffer in the next few years.
Take note-at $5.40 per gallon for gas, one cannot expect too many tourists, unless they are filthy rich, and don't bother to calculate.
A gas guzzling motor home will get 5 to 8 miles to the gallon. Now let's go figure-a trip from here to Edmonton-count on burning at least $450.00 for 450 miles. Now driving a car that gets 30 miles to the gallon, the cost would be around the $80.00 figure-leaving $370.00 for close to a weeks stay in reasonable motels. Oh yes, remember the $25.00 per day in an R V park-$175.00 a week. Parking lots look downright appealing. Remember cooking in a motor home is not a heck of a lot cheaper than eating in cafes. Then a laundromat eats another $20.00 to wash towels and bedding.
After this expensive trip is over-time for any repairs and maintenance. Then winterizing is costly-and where does one place the beast for the winter? Have to keep that roof cleared of snow. Now calculate the interest lost on this investment. Now that can be at least a couple hundred a month, and that is for 12 months of the year.
I quit. By now you are no longer interested in buying an R V. Motels and cafes look pretty good, and a lot less work to boot.
Hey-even a tent is looking better!
