For the second time in three days, the public has taken part in tracking down a suspect.

Around 8:30 this morning, a woman arrived at her business in the 1500 block of Third Avenue.  As she prepared to open the door, a man wearing a balaclava and a hoody grabbed her briefcase and took off.

The woman took chase, then two other people saw the event and joined the chase.

Another person, this one driving a car, called police and then joined the chase.  One person noted the suspect ditched the hoody and the balaclava and passed the info on the changed description to police.  Prince George RCMP were then able to pick up their suspect as he entered a business in the 2000 block of First Avenue.  There was an outstanding warrant for the suspect who is in now in custody.  The 33 year old man is to be charged with robbery.

On Monday,  a  downtown store manager chased a woman  suspected of  stealing some clothes. (see Knife  Pulled After Clothes Theft)

Police say while they appreciate the public’s assistance in the two cases, they are concerned the results could have had much different results.  They say the suspect could be violent, and could have a weapon.

If Osama ever comes to town, we'll git 'im. You betcha!!
The civilians should be armed. They have the right spirit. There would certainly be less trouble with the dead beats if they thought people were dangerous when aroused.
Good samaritans should beware. What would have happened if the poor thief fell and broke his arm or worse yet one of the good samaritans punched him out? The way our laws work, guess who'd end up up on the s... end of the stick? I even agree with YamaDoo.
I think we have to stop being a bunch of pusses and stand up for ourselves no matter what the event. The police can't protect us, and they would have us not protect ourselves either. Community policing IS the community policing itself. Even the cops buy into this idea.
Besides, I'll back you up and you should do the same for me.
