One Click Program Launched
By 250 News
Solicitor General John Les was in Prince George today to officially launch the One Click program.
The program is aimed at increasing seatbelt use among youth.
In three parts, the program includes a graphic 40 minute video which illustrates what can happen when seatbelts are not used. One clip shows how one young man is not belted, his three friends are, but when their vehicle is involved in a crash, they are secure, he becomes a projectile within the vehicle causing fatal injuries to his friends.
There is a special education component that will go with the program and RCMP officers will be taking the program to 35 schools throughout the north over the upcoming year.
The third part of the program involves a rollover simulator.

It is the cab of a pickup, attached to spindles, and rotates at a speed of 48 kmph. Equipped with adult "dummies", the simulator illustrates how people can become projectiles within the vehicle, and how they can be easily ejected from the vehicle.
The simulator is only the second of its kind in B.C.

There was four of us in the truck, none wearing a seat belt. The hood was gone, the tailgate was in a tree, the box was folded in, the engine was ripped right off the truck, as were the wheels. More importantly the roof was crushed down to the top of the seat.
We all walked away from the accident and not wearing our seatbelts was what saved our lives as we were all crushed down to the floor and seat of the truck. Had we had our seat belts on we would have been crushed as a result of the roll-over and killed for complying with the law.
I don't wear a seat belt and never will as a result. I paid 3 seat belt fines last year, all of them just around the corner to my house. I don't like it and I don't like being told how to protect myself for my own safety when this advice would have killed me in the past.
I think my safety is my choice when it does not involve the safety of others.
