Canoeists Raise Concern

Four canoeists gave family and friends a scare.

The four men, aged  50,29, 25 and 11,  were paddling in two canoes on the Salmon River yesterday.  They were supposed to  pull out of the River last night.  When they failed to show at the  Highway 97 bridge,  Search and Resuce was notified.

Early this mornig, family, friends, the R.C.M.P. and Search and Rescue  headed out at first light to try and find the  four men.  A Helicpeter and two kayaks took to the  area, and the chopper spotted the men about 4km upstream from the pull out point.

Seems they had reached a log jam on the Salmon river and had run out of daylight to safely portage around it, so  they put up for the night.  All are safe and sound and elected to continue their trip to the originally planned pull out spot  at the Highway 97 bridge.

why don't these people pack some form of communication a two way radio would probably solve these problems.
I saw the movie "Deliverance". Kinda cured me from wanting to buy a canoe.
How many lives need to be lost or rescued because of the dangerous log jams on the Salmon River?

These people should all be charged for the time and effort expended to go looking for them. Many other lives are put at risk to venture out into the same hazardous conditions. Chester
