Softwood Deal Could Fade Away

There is a report today the softwood lumber agreement may never get to the House of Commons for a vote.

Trade Minister David Emerson is quoted by Canadian Press as saying if the industry and the  provinces  don't agree with the pact,  then it just may not surface in Parliament.

The  Harper government had indicated the deal would be up for a vote by Members of Parliament and it would be considered a vote of confidence.  If defeated, that would spell the end of the Harper government.

So far, the lumber industry has expressed some displeasure.  B.C. 's Premier Gordon Campbell told Opinion 250 the deal may not be perfect, however  he wonders if it would ever be possible to reach a deal that will make everyone happy.

I feel that the decision to accept the Softwood Lumber Agreement should be totally left in the hands of Government and Industry. Chester
Yeah, well, it is not going to be! Not in the hands of the Government I'll bet, And who else other than those directly involved in the Industry? Who else were you thinking of Chester? The whiners and the snivellers? They have not been consulted-have they?
Emerson states if the companies do not accept the deal it is possible, and probable, it will be years before another proposal is on the table.
Almost sounded threatening.
Matter of fact-it did sound threatening.
Kind of losing his cool, I'd say!
Bet those Americans involved are drooling a bit over that BILLION. Now the latest decision is they get NOTHING.
Just cannot figure why Emerson is so upset? Must have something to do with a cut on the American side Canfor could miss out on, as well as on the Canadian side. He can jump off the fence on either side and be a winner if the deal goes through.
Now that doesn't happen often?
What a sweet deal!
"Softwood Deal Could Fade Away"

- so can a government which does not represent
the wishes of the people.
Emerson is an idiot I already knew that.
I was sure Harper was to, even before the election....So i never voted for him.
Then in a grand slam move to prove he is a moron Harper took on emerson...and i believe that will be the final nail in harpers political career.
Emerson is going down by giving in too easily to the Americans, and he is dragging harper down with him.
They will fight tooth and nail to keep this from a vote, becuase they know its not a popular decision with canadians, and will be the straw that broke harpers back.

Harper has been in power such a short time, and has proven over and over already that he lies and is not a person for the people.
Now he has made his own cabinet swear to not talk to the media.
he used to bitch about people crossing the floor, and yet he called emerson over even before he officially took office.
He has been pushing stupid issues, trying to keep the light off the big stuff.
And i can see a re-election being called very soon on the horizon.
I will buy a round for everyone at the BX pub when they announce the vote of non-confidence against harper....its will be a great day for us Canadians!
Marty. Who will replace Harper and the Conservatives. Some broken down, whining, loser, Liberal, with his pockets full of money left over from the Sponsoship Scandal. Maybe we could get Chuck Guite out of Jail and he could run for the leadership, or some other Liberal who is presently cooling his heels in Jail. Maybe some deadbeat ex NDP Premier from Ontario,(Bob Rae) or better still an ex NDP Premier of BC who ran for the Liberals in the last Election. " Ujal Dosanjh" remember him. Or we could get Smiling Jack the plastic face to be Prime Minister if the NDP could ever muster enough votes (Highly unlikely)
Remember Belinda Stronach maybe we could entice her to change her mind and run. Or the Liberal idiot that brought in the Gun Registry and cost us a Billion or so. (Allan Rock) remember him.

It appears at this time that Harper has made a few mistakes, and they could cost him politically, however when you look at all the players in the field, he still looks like the best option in the next election. Time will tell.

It was Harper who was going to put the Softwood Deal to a vote, and it was Harper who said that it would be a confidence vote, it appears at that time he was going to trigger a non-confidence vote so he could go to the polls. He has since dropped in the polls, and therefore you will not see this issue go to a vote, and some people beleive that Harper will be Prime Minister for at least the next 2 years. Hope you can hang on until then so that I can cancel your vote.
Stay cool everyone.
Harper is still our best bet for a common sense government which will give consideration to the people.
Don't be too hasty to judge.
He did take on a pretty tough job, and the Canadian public had reached a point where any government in power would be subject to strong dislike by many. Too many scandals had disillusioned people, and everything the government does for a period of time will be suspect.
Relax-breathe deep-and give them and yourself a break. Too short lived to throw out now.
I still think he will do fine-but let him get his feet wet right now. Don't drown him before he has a chance to prove himself.
Well said Trusted.
Too many Onions in the stew....both federal and provincial, why not city next and really make a mess of it
