Cariboo-North MLA Bob Simpson beat his Liberal friends to the north on Monday by appearing before Prince George City Council.
The New Democrats Forest and Range critic wanted Council to know he is available to assist the City on problems, given the fact that many of his constituents who reside in his region, work in Prince George.
Simpson said the main issue facing this region as he sees it, is the problem of forestry brought on in good measure by the Pine Beetle. He said with his background in the forest industry, (he was an executive with Welwood before it was bought out by West Fraser.) he has good insight.
Simpson told Council we need to look at the value added sector because "Within the next ten years we are going to go through some major changes in the forest industry brought on not only by the Pine Beetle but also the emergence of Siberia as a major world wood producer."
"Forest issues" said Simpson, "need to be brought to the fore front. They have been neglected." He said that when the local government has exhausted its efforts with the local Liberals, if they want to have an ear, he is the person who will listen.
