Water Main Break Causes Some Damage

City crews have responded and dealt with a water main break that occurred overnight at Melville and Laurier, says Kevin Sanregret, Supervisor of Utility Operations for the City.

Some residences in the area were downstream from the break, in a bowl area, says Sanregret, so the break has caused some problems. A few homes have been affected, but exact numbers and type of damage aren’t known as all reports may not be in. Damages may include such things as basement flooding, damage from water running through lawns, or deposits of silt on property.

The cause of the break in the eight inch pipe is still unknown, says Sanregret, adding that the City is sorry homeowners in the area have been inconvenienced. The typical process in these types of cases is for affected homeowners to contract their insurance companies.

Right....get my insurance to pay for your problem so MY rates go up.....Sounds like our normal Prince George.....*LOL*
I would think that the process is to contact the insurance company, if you have insurance, so that you can get fairly quick payment. The insurance company will then negotiate with the City, since they are the cause of the problem. Same with any insurance. The city is self insured and, I assume, does not have ajusters who can determine the value of the damage, nor is it set up for that.

It is no different from having a car accident with an out-of province vehicle. If the other party is obviously at fault, you do not contact their insurance, you contact your insurance and your insurance will handle the process so that you can get your car fixed. The final insruance settlement between companies may not occur for another year, for all you know or care.
