Prince George RCMP are advising residents to be wary of “too good to be true” lottery announcements that may show up in their regular mail or email.

RCMP are receiving ongoing complaints and questions about lottery scams, including a recent one called the Grand Slam, which appears to originate in Australia. Several other lottery scams originating from Spain have also shown up.

These fraudulent lotteries ask residents to either send money or allow monies to be withdrawn from their bank account. This payment is sometimes referred to as an “acceptance fee”. RCMP caution that being asked to send money first for a lottery winning is a fairly reliable indicator of fraud.

These mailing may also have realistic looking post dated cheques, which will bounce if someone tries to deposit them, say RCMP.

You just don't get something for nothing. Trash the junk mail, delete the e-mails and ignore the phone calls. As important as doing the right thing is to avoid doing the wrong thing. Chester
I used to get so many telemarketer calls begging for money ( yes i know off topic somewhat ) that i used to just put the receiver down and let them ramble and wait for as long as it took while i went and did something else.
Eventually they would hang up and soon the calls slowed down.
I guess its okay to waste my time, but they hate theirs wasted in return.
I got rid of my home phone and just a couple cell phones now.
Wow is that better....i will never have a home phone again.
