Yesterday, 19 people had to be treated after coming into contact with sulphur dioxide.  The plume had wafted from a chemical plant on Industrial Way in the BCR industrial site, across the road to the Rustad Sawmill  where workers came into contact with the fumes.

It is interesting to note this same chemical plant is across the river and a little downstream from where the planned Fraser River Benchlands development would be located.

Thos who oppose the Benchlands development and who are concerned about  noise and  air pollution, may well point to the incident yesterday as a reminder of what might have happened had the emissions been higher or the wind from another direction.

The Opinion 250 Poll asked:

Should environmental concerns be at the top of the list when neighbourhoods are being planned?

The  answer, according to our readers is a resounding YES!

The final results  show  79.1% say yes

                                  20.9% say  no.
